Here she is:

First order of buiness was to get some photos of the different parts of the bike, then to remove those stupid looking pegs.

The bike was heavy, I wasn’t sure exactly how heavy yet. The pegs were part of the problem, thought the whole bike is rather portly. After removing the 4 pegs, i weighed them. 1 lb a piece. Then i weighed the peg less bike, 37lb. Wow, that means that the pegs accounted for almost 10% of the original weight. Wow. Without them it’s lighter, and doesn’t look as stupid.

The bike is dirty, but I think that with a little cleanup, it will look a lot better.

There are two brake lines from the rear brake lever to the upper bezel. When you pull the lever, it lifts the lower bezel (hopefully at the same time), which pulls on both rear lower rear lines. So it’s basically got 4 lines that operate the rear brake, which means 4 lines to adjust correctly. We’ll see if i can do it.

Overall, I’m excited to take The Mongoose apart, clean it, and see if i can get it working in tip-top shape for my baby. Scooot!

On the way over to some friends house the other night Stacey pointed out a ‘garage’ sale in the open door of what looked like a business on the fringe of the downtown area. On our way back home she reminded me of it, and we decided to stop by and see what kind of deals they had. Not many. Mostly it was a collection of junk that hadn’t been sold (they were almost done for the day). One thing they did have, a bmx bike that Stacey went right over to, and asked, “does this one fit me?” In fact, it did! We had gone last summer to a couple stores looking at mountain bikes for her, but they were all seemingly too big, and enough money that we weren’t sure it would be worth it. After looking at it for couple minutes, I didn’t think that it looked to bad, and offered the lady $15 for it (it had $25 marked on it). After a bit of joking with the lady we agreed on $20. Not bad I thought! We pushed it back to the car, I struggled as I hoisted it to the rack on top of the car and secured it. Stacey had has her own bike!!:) Now to teach her how to ride it! It’s all about balance and speed!

Today I had, for the first time, my new favorite drink. I thought it sounded good on the Old Chicago menu, but man, it was so smoooooth, and it just went down like nothing. It’s the Guinness Snakebite! Let me know what you think!

I walk up to the door, package in hand. Rung doorbell produces elderly gentleman. “Hello, this package is for Darla.” Elderly gentlemen looks at me and says, “She’s not in, but she should be returning shortly.” He just stands there. Ok, should I just stand here like an idiot and wait “shortly” until she comes back? How’s about you take the package and she can return shortly, longly, or whenever she wants to!!!:) “You can take the package,” I say. “Oh,” he says, and takes the package.

Mt. Biking in the Star City

Waking up early (8:00am), I was out the door by 8:45, and several minutes later at my first off-road departure point in Wilderness Park. The skies were clear and sunny, the temperature in the 70′s.

The Trail out of the parking lot looked inviting.

And it didn’t disappoint.

Most of the trails were just like this, clear singletrack, with tall, green grasses on each side. With the abundance of trees, most of the trails were also shaded, which with the rising temperatures, provided at least a little relief.

For a while one of the trails followed this river, which although quite dirty, was pretty. The single track was tight and quick for the most part, and because I was having so much fun, and because i was by myself, it was hard to take that many photos. Needless to say I had a blast.

The only action photo I got (with me in it), was the following photo, which was over a bridge that crossed the river shown above.

After riding for about an hour and a half, I got back to the car for a rest, a photo, and then off to another parking lot to find more trails.

The next parking area I went to ended up being a dud for the most part. It didn’t really offer any direct access to dirt trails. It did lead to what I’m assuming was an old railroad right of way that was converted to a bike/jog path. Though there wasn’t much to it, the smooth gravel and tree-lined way, provided a relaxing bit of riding.

Here’s one last one that I took, that I thought looked rather cool.

Overall, I’d have to say that I was very impressed! It was the first actual off-road riding I’d done since I was at school up in Bellingham, WA. The trails were surprisingly well maintained, they were quick, and the scenery was pretty! I’m going to be back out there again soon!

Back to Biking

Excitement, is what this one is feeling. After spotting some actual “trails” here in Lincoln to ride a mountain bike on, I went this afternoon to the local bike shop and purchased a new set of tires and tubes! Tomorrow morning, I’m off to do some riding! Woot!!!

Soggy Armpit…

My armpits have been soggy before, usually soggy and smelly, due to things such as exercise or nervousness. Last night I fell asleep with the love of my life in my arms.

I awoke early in the morning, aware of her head on my shoulder. My left armpit, surprisingly soggy. Did I have a bad dream, was my body temperature high, causing me to start sweating? No, just my love’s drool mixing with my armpit hair.

Well, it’s sunny outside, I guess that’s a plus!

I hate it when I leave the lights, or radio on in my car overnight. Usually it would be the first crap thing of the day, but some mornings like this one it’s not. After getting into a mini-fight last night right before bed, and not getting a resolution out of it, we got up this morning and barely looked at each other. Walked virtually silent to the car, and found that the battery was completely dead. Now it’s 45 min later, she walked to her job, and I’ve made 3 attempts and I still don’t have the battery charged enough. I’m waiting couple extra minutes this time, hoping it will make THE difference. Man I hope this day gets better!
